As a project for our class noticeboard, all students were required to draw a caricature/take a picture of a classmate. My muse was a girl named Lara Price. Being an avid lover of photography, my mission was to interpret Lara's personality through photography. In the end, my choices boiled down to these three photos:
Lara Take #1 - A black and white portrait photograph of Lara, with an increase in brightness, compared to the original.
Lara Take #2 - A landscape photograph of Lara with a yellow tint and a glow.
Lara Take #3 - My final decision, a landscape photograph of Lara with a sepia tone.My interpretation of Take 3 is that the subject, Lara, smiles candidly to show a genuine personality - which is accentuated by the sepia tone that shows warmth. The monochromatic colour scheme alludes to the fact that she is easy to understand and get along with. The subject's position in the photograph makes reference to the fact she is soft-spoken, and her outward gaze is a reference to her determination and active participation in the community.
This project with Lara has inspired me to come up with a collection of photographs, where I plan on depicting a person's personality through photography. More pictures to come soon...when I'm not as swamped with work.
